Olympia was a rural sanctuary in the Western Peloponnesos dedicated to Zeus. It was located 15km (7miles) from the Ionian Sea. The sanctuary was located near the meeting of the Alpheus and Kladeos rivers at the base of the hill of Kronos.

This is where the Ancient Olympic Games whee held in Olympia to honor Zeus.

Olympia was named after Mt. Olympia which is a Mountain located in a rural sanctuary in the Western Peloponnesos (In Greece) which is dedicated to Zeus. Olympia (or Olympiad) means ''4th'' thus being why the winter and summer Olympics are held every 4 years. The Olympic games are Named after Olympia where the first Olympics were held ion 776 BC!
