This might sound stupid but l first thought of it after playing Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games. Most of you are probably thinking, 'Oh it is just a passing thing, you will get over it'. That is what l thought too, but l think l have a chance, l mean sure I am out of shape, but I am 15, l have four years to the next Olympic games, and even if l do not make that, l have a few more chances. oh, uh, getting off topic. sorry. l guess my question is, How can l even get a chance among the hundreds of people that wanna join? Hard work surely helps, but l do not know how to qualify or any of that stuff. (also if you can, tell me how fast l should be able to swim for a chance to qualify. is 50 meters in under 30 seconds good, because l have no clue.)

You will have to start swimming ASAP, & train for several hours, six days per week until 2012, although thats not enough time probably should think about 2016. Join a team & compete in official events & make the qualifying times. You will need a coach to help u get perfect form & mechanics, & design a diet & trianing regimen. Phelps consumes 12,000 calories per day & has been training for this since he was 7, plus has perfect genetics.

Genetics r very important. You need to be tall & long arms & legs, & abnormally large feet.

1. Get a time machine
2. go back 9 years and join a good club or YMCA team.
3. Train hard at the expense of everything and everyone else
4. Ignore the fact that your parents bankrupt themselves and eventually divorce to fund your little fantasy.

A very fine goal, l am sure. However, u first need to become a world class swimmer. If you're not swimming now, you're a little late. Michael Phelps hit the water at 7 or 8, & he is built like a torpedo fish. He is built to be a swimmer. Your body type will tell u what ur most qualified to be. Do u have thick muscles? You're not going to be a world class swimmer if u do. Do u have slow or fast twitch muscles? If u have fast twitch muscles, u will be a better sprinter then long distance swimmer, & vice versa. How much time r u willing to spend in the pool training? 6-8 hours 6-7 days a week? How much ''normalcy'' r u willing to give up in ur life? But if u r still hell bent on being an Olympic swimmer after all I've said, Go for it.
