On the 6 July 2005, the International Olympic Committee awarded the 2012 Olympic Games & Paralympic Games to London. They beat out the bids from Paris, Madrid, New York & Moscow. The Olympic Games will run from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The Paralympic Games will run from 29 August to 9 September 2012.

The Olympic Games will be organised by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) alongside key partners, including the British Olympic Association, the Greater London Authority & the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).

The Government & the Mayor have agreed a funding package of up to £2.375 billion to help meet the costs of staging an Olympics in London in 2012, including support for elite sport & associated sports investments.
