i understand ur points but chess is a pretty hard game if u get the top from most countries ..
and video games isnt really a good game for the olympics because really all u need is 3 hours of training and 10 fingers and ur ready to compete for gold
appart the fact that it wont get the best media attention now they could recognise the pros from the amateurs thanks to the new rating system
but you have to admit that very few look at al the disciplines like artistic gymnastic l bet very few watch that but still and l bet a similar amount of people would wanna at least see the highlights

As far as l am aware Chess has never been an Olympic sport.

For the 1924 Olympics an attempt was made to include chess in the Olympics Games but this failed because of problems with distinguishing between amateur & professional players

However there is a separate 'chess Olympiad' every two years.

l think the case against it now is that there is not enough 'physical exertion' for it to qualify. Same as the argument against snooker going into the olympics.

l dont think it wud b interesting enough to watch or the media wud just not cover it and wud choose to cover other interesting games like swimming and running.

Art used to be in the Olympic, with the art work reflecting the Olympics sport

l use to play chess professionally & thought about this several times. Fact is that as much as it is mental, it has no physical component. Olympic events require some degree of physical prowess (even marksmanship relies on a person is skill holding a gun more while the gun does the work, etc.) It does deserve some degree of attention as a world-wide event but it also has several such programs in place, USCF, etc. The best thing u can do is support those organizations & help bring their events into as much limelight as the Olympics.

l hate to say it but video games have more of a chance of making it into the Olympics than chess as anyone whose bruised their thumbs from playing Super Mario Bros for 12 hours will tell you.

l do not think Chess is a sport and l never want it to be in the Olympics.Its not a spectator sport only just a hobby.

It will be in the Olympics when it becomes an athletic event. So...never.
