Beijing Olympic Games ended last week. Well, it has a marvelous opening ceremony, displayed its impressive traditional culture and the organization for the games was also not bad, Of course, China cost a lot of money which may counts up to 50 billion. But do you think China has improved its worldwide image through this Beijing Olympic Games? As you know china has very serious human rights problem etc.

l still think China is lack of human rights

and l did not like how they tried to show how open they r while not letting reporters into some places

l also thought that not letting the young girl sing because she looked ugly was ridiculous, which basically makes no sense at all

[Art of War] that is basically saying that she was too ugly to sing

wouldnt it sound dumb if u said ''We decided to let the other girl act like sing because the real singer was too ugly''

they r just making it sound nicer

There will always be anger around of how they do things differently than most democratic systems. China is doing everything they can to legitimize their system. Fight corruption. Fight pollution. Fight to protect Chinese citizens from the work they do ie mining. It is impossible to CHANGE immediately & people needs to hush down or at least help instead of screaming insults & threats.

[DK] This is exactly what Westerners will demonize China. Saying China told Peiyi was ''too ugly.''

In Western media I've often seen it presented as if Yang Peiyi had been considered ''too ugly which of course is ridiculous insulting nonsense but that goes in line with the general campaign of demonizing China..

Check this out (read also the credits that is due: (A) Yang Peiyi, (B) Lin Miaoke, (C) Lei Cixin)--That means China never hide from the public to show the backstage singer WAS THE REAL STAR.

http://blog.foolsmountain.com/2008/08/12/an-imperfect-perfection/

This is an excerpt from 陈其钢 Chen Qigang, chief music director of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.:

''We went to the Central Broadcasting Radio Station to make recordings. It was felt afterward that Lin Miaoke’s voice wasn’t exactly suitable in terms of tone control, range & depth. In the end, we decided that Yang Peiyi should be the one to provide the voice. We thought it was in the national interest to put the one with the best appearance & expression on the stage. Lin Miaoke was a very good choice for this role. But in terms of the music, we all felt that Yang Peiyi had the flawless voice.

So,in the end, they chose to have the best of both worlds. It is only fair in a way. Why give all the honour to just one of the girls when they could give it to both? The best possible image the best possible voice. Seems fully reasonable to me.''

Do u see ANYWHERE from THAT excerpt that said she was ''too ugly?''

Support me to sue UK Telegraph for media disinformation now!

[[edit2 to DK]] Read it again. They chose Lin Miaoke first not Yang Peiyi. Since Lin was not impressive in singing.Yang was dubbing Lin Miaoke is voice. They never told Yang was ''too ugly.'' And also from the link: the end credits roll as Yang Peiyi was first then Lin Miaoke.

l came to realize that China keeps it ancient history alive. Most modern societies have left theirs behind. :)

Of course, the $40 billion was a much better use of money compared to the $3 trillion the Americans spent on invading Iraq..

as my home country.... l have felt that china has opened up because the water cube.. was purposely made clear because it sent a message that china was clear to the world.

l doubt how many people would actually change their mentality when thinking about China after a successful Olympics.
The bias & prejudice will prolong no matter how many successful stories China will produce in the future as long as the country is not playing by Western rules which is judged by many (some of many r blind) to have a high moral stands (genuine high moral stands?).

For people who already know China & hold an objective stand towards the country, China remains the same if it is not better in their mind. While for people who hate China regardless, they will still hate it for however long.

China should keep away from being paranoid about how westerns judge the country because lifting people out of poverty is still a key task (there r still 15% of China is population is under poverty line). The West gives huge praise to India for its democratic system without willingly recognizing 50% of Indian population live below poverty line. When talking about human rights, the most basic rights r food, clothing & shelter, like it or not China has done a great job to accomplish it.

By the way, which country does not have serious human rights issues? l am an Australian & l can not forget our land belonged to the Australian Aboriginal people who were robbed by European settlers. And needless to say how profound human rights issues America is facing. After all u guys r killing innocent people in another country.
