l know that China won the most gold medals, but which country won the olympics overall?? Is there even someone who overall won it, or are there catagories??

If by overall you mean the most medals in total, then it would be the US with 110 medals, followed by China with 110 and Russia with 72. You can find the full medal standings here:

USA won the most medals. But if you are talking about the most gold medals it would be China. l believe the United States got the most silver.

Nobody wins the Olympics. This is something people who like either China or the United States made up so people will argue.

According to the International Olympic Committee, there is no recognition of a winning country in any Olympic Games. Any such declaration is unofficial. During the Olympics here on YA, l saw at least five different proposals about how an Olympic winning country should be decided. If the people who think a winning country should be declared can not even agree on how it should be tabulated, l can see why the IOC does not condone such activity.

the IOC however takes the position that their is NO winner, other than individual winners in their particular events, & that tally boards r for information only.

That the USA media has chosen to show their tally boards differently from the IOC & the rest of the world, & in doing so have generated a feeling within the USA that their country is 'leading' when everyone else outside the USA saw China as 'leading', has generated a lot of dissent & bad PR for the USA..

.and in the eyes of many outside the USA this has been percieved as a further example of USA arrogance, & an inability to accept 2nd place on the tally boards with grace & dignity & to give the Chinese due credit for their remarkable achievment. It has been seen by many as an absurd & unnecessary need within the USA to attempt to place themselves first, absurd given how well they do/did anyway.

There is no winner for the Olympics, it is supposed to be a stage where athletes from all around the world can compete without prejudice with the best.

China won the most gold so it is the champion of the Games.

The United States won the most medals which came about from honest hard work and dedicated parents and coaches, not government subsidies. But the other lady was right, no country officially ''wins'' the Olympics. No award or recognition by the IOC is given for the overall medal counts. The medal count is done by tv networks and newspapers. Togo did not do too bad either-- their first medal ever the Olympic games. in kayak (a bronze).
