No because spikes are used for rubber track which are on the inside or outside but most outside tracks are asphalt.

um l think outside is fine but l doubt inside its gonna scratch the track and u probabaly have a bigger chance of falling, its like using ur cleats for soccer u could use it outside but never inside it depends on the person in charge

It depends on the surface. On most outdoor tracks, quarter inch spikes will suffice, though u may want longer ones if you're a sprinter. You're obviously not a sprinter so do not go above a quarter inch.

Many indoor tracks wo not allow spikes. l remember in high school l competed in invitationals & district meets on the indoor track at George Mason University, they had a special high-tech surface that was attracting a lot of big stars ( l got some great autographs one year) & they adamantly would not allow prep distance runners to use spikes on it. No way. If u did not have rubber-studded flats, like the old Nike waffle racer, u had to put stud spikes in ur spikes.

Now, as for cross country, l am assuming if you're asking this you're not a college runner (yet) so do not waste ur money. Unless u r on the most crazy bad cross country course in the world, with slippery mud going up a 30 degree hill that everyone falls on their face & slides back to the bottom again, spikes will make no difference. They wo not make any difference on grass either. l know some people use them. They might make a small difference if you've got lots of nice flat dirt & paved surfaces, but at prep level, the difference wo not amount to diddly. It is conditioning that will win the races & at prep level the key to success is top 15 finishes. There is always at least 30 seconds between 1st & 15th, far more difference than spikes can make.

You can use spikes for both cross & indoor & outdoor, all u need to do is change the spikes with ur spike wrench which r usually sold with the shoes. l really recommend using road-race flats for cross country though.
