Team USA & the National Team - one and the same

l recently saw a year old(?) TV ad in which the US Women is Team traveled to Brazil for a rematch.That same ad ran just to congratulate Team USA for bringing home Olympic gold.Sooo.....is it a minor issue of titles depending on the seasonal cycle (Olympics(2008) - Team USA / World Cup(2010) - National Team ), or does the team for the Olympics choose their players by way of the Olympic trials like they do for all the other team sports?

The national team represents the country in international matches.
It is usually the same people.
The coaches and staff may add or drop players during the build up to a big match.
They do not have try outs as some sports but new players are invited to train with the team on the chance they will become a member.
